Free Imprisoned Schools | Eliminate 1% of Ed Codes Now

Good day CharterFolk.

Long time readers know that a theme here is the debilitating regulation that undermines our schools.

Last month, I wrote about the Large Language Model of Regulation that threatens public education.

Just one set of regulations …

… has almost as many words …

… as War and Peace.

ChatGPT reveals that an inestimable number of words exist in state ed codes.

Last year, I wrote about regulation putting public education behind bars.

It’s a whole other kind of school to prison pipeline.

Earlier, I talked about freedom being among schools’ greatest needs if they’re going to do great things with kids.

Everyday …

… a …

… new …

… bar …

… is …

… added …

… to …

… the …

… cage.

The question becomes: what to do about it?

Today I offer a modest proposal, one that can and should be led by the charter school movement.

Drumroll.

Reduce state ed codes by 1%!

Every year!

Indefinitely!

First, estimate the inestimable.

Figure out how many words there are in your state’s ed code.

Then find the 1% of it that is most inane.

And run a bill to eliminate it.

And when you’ve succeeded, do it again.

Not just language holding back charter schools, but all schools.

Because our movement doesn’t exist just to make things better for ourselves but to make things better for everyone.

So that all kids can be better served,.

CharterFolk, we are called upon to lead.

To lead public education out of prison toward that day when all schools can finally be as we need them to be:

Free.
